Liverpool are monitoring the situation of Angers youngster Mohamed-Ali Cho ahead of a possible move.
That’s according to RMC Sport. They claim that The Reds have been ‘keeping an eye’ on the 18-year-old winger.
Liverpool are said to be one of a host of clubs who hold an interest in Cho. In fact, no less than nine different teams are credited with various levels of interest too.
The most significant interest is claimed to come from Leicester City and Eintracht Frankfurt. Both teams were reportedly ‘active’ in trying to get a deal done during the January transfer window.
According to RMC, Angers are looking for a fee that would make Cho their record sale. In that case, the deal would have to surpass £20m. However, the fact that the player’s contract runs out in June 2023 could complicate this for the French side.
The lowdown on Cho
Cho has had an intriguing career in football so far. Having spent his childhood moving between England and France, he joined Everton’s academy from PSG as an 11-year-old.
After progressing through the youth ranks at Finch Farm, the youngster became frustrated at the lack of a pathway to the first team.
Although Everton didn’t want him to go, Cho left for nothing to join Angers in January 2020.
Despite his age, he has been a feature of the Ligue 1 side’s first-team since then. After starting just one of his 21 league appearances last season, he has gone on to begin 17 of 26 games this term.
Gearing up for a move
Having only turned eighteen in January, Cho already has a half-century of games under his belt in men’s football.
The youngster’s attacking statistics aren’t anything to shout about. The France under-21 international has just two goals in those 50 appearances for Angers.
However, he is clearly someone who provides excitement. He is a fast, direct and skilful winger who likes to play from the right cutting in onto his favoured left foot.
With a contract set to expire in the near future, Cho will surely be on the move soon.
Liverpool have been bolstering their youth ranks in recent times. Should they choose to pursue the ex-Everton wonderkid though, he’d surely be as a first-team option.
