Divock Origi will take quite a significant pay cut by leaving Liverpool for AC Milan, according to reports. The Belgian is out of contract this summer.

This comes from TuttoMercatoWeb. They claim that Divock Origi has told AC Milan that he will leave Liverpool to join them this summer.

The two parties have been in discussions for some time now but fallen just short of agreement. There has always been a chance that Origi negotiated a new contract with Liverpool, after all, with his current deal expiring at the end of the season.

But it now appears that he’ll join Milan on a three-year contract with an option for another. As for his potential wages, Origi will cut his current pay packet by around £416k per year – working out to £1.2m over the three years.

It’s a significant dip in pay for the 26-year-old as he chases first-team football.

Divock Origi to leave Liverpool

Gazzetta dello Sport reported last week that Milan were around £800k away from Origi’s preferred yearly salary. They’ve reached a middle ground with this deal, then – assuming the forward formally signs.

And all in all, it seems ideal for everyone. There was that chance that Origi re-signed with Liverpool but it always felt unlikely with all the competition for places up top.

He hasn’t had regular first-team football for some time, after all – not since Klopp’s first season with the club. Injury brought that spell to an end and transfers just continuously pushed Origi down the pecking order.

Yes, he’s taking a pay cut here but it does feel as though this contract is his shot at finally showing how good he is. Milan can give Origi what Liverpool can’t and he’s a player who almost certainly delivers when finally given a proper opportunity.
