Jurgen Klopp says it’s still ‘crazy’ to watch Luis Diaz in training for Liverpool. The Colombian makes an interesting impression.
It’s now a few months into Luis Diaz’s time with Liverpool but it appears some things haven’t changed. For one, he’s still enjoying training as much as ever.
Jurgen Klopp said back in February after just two weeks of Diaz that it was ‘crazy’ how much he smiled in training. He just had a great time, it seems.
“We give Luis a little bit more time to adapt to it, but he is an incredible player,” said Klopp. “His joy and love for football is so obvious.
“When you see him training, he cannot stop smiling. I’ve never had a player like this, it’s crazy.”
Well, fast-forward to April and that’s still very much the case. Klopp talked about Diaz in his pre-match press conference ahead of Benfica tomorrow and says he’s still smiling more than anyone he’s ever seen.
“I didn’t know how much he enjoys training, I had no idea,” said Klopp. “I’m not sure I ever saw somebody like that. I said it before, he cannot stop smiling during training. He just can’t stop. It’s crazy. I didn’t know that.”
Luis Diaz at Liverpool
It’s certainly great to see that Diaz appears to have a great time playing football. We just assumed that all that smiling two weeks in was him being overjoyed with his transfer – apparently, it’s just how he is.

And to be fair, you see that on the pitch. Diaz is a livewire who works incredibly hard against every opponent – from an EFL Cup final or UEFA Champions League quarter-final to an FA Cup clash with Cardiff City.
Liverpool found a special player here and one who impresses every time he steps out there. Absolutely everything from Diaz has been positive up to now and long may it continue.
