Rafa Benitez gave his thoughts on Divock Origi as the Belgian looks likely to leave Liverpool. AC Milan want the centre-forward.
Rafa Benitez, as it turns out, is a big fan of Liverpool striker Divock Origi. The legendary Reds boss gave his thoughts to Gazzetta dello Sport, where he described the Belgian as having ‘unquestionable’ talent. The outlet asked Benitez is AC Milan should sign the player this summer.
“Yes, also because the player’s talent is unquestionable, he has excellent potential,” he said, translated by Sport Witness. “The biggest unknowns are always related to the speed of adaptation.”
Divock Origi to leave Liverpool
Origi is a player with incredible talent – no doubts there. And you can probably still call him a player with ‘excellent potential’, too, despite him turning 27 in two weeks.
And that’s simply because Liverpool have not used Origi as a regular striker for some time now. He’s been backup at best and has played the role of impact sub for a few years. And played the role incredibly well, we should add.
The potential is there, then, for Origi to explode into life as a regular player for someone. The opportunity is there, too, as the Belgian’s contract expires this summer.

Gazzetta themselves – among many others – believe AC Milan front the queue to sign Origi. It sounds as though they’re just a few specific financial details away from confirming a deal.
And we’ll admit to being a little excited about it. We’d love to see what Origi can actually do as a regular striker for someone. Will he score consistently in a team that trusts him more than Liverpool? His goal record suggests he will and that’s what Milan are banking on here.
So we’ll be sad to see Origi leave the club, of course, but it is time to see what he can do. As Benitez says, the potential is excellent.
