Jurgen Klopp didn’t attempt to hide his strategy ahead of Liverpool vs Manchester City. The Reds’ boss knows what kind of match it’ll be.
Liverpool travel to take on Manchester City on Sunday – the biggest game of the Premier League season. In fact, no subsequent match will come close to the magnitude of this one.
The Reds sit one point behind City and are in blistering form. Pep Guardiola’s side aren’t quite in that same kind of groove but they lead the league for a reason – they’ve been utterly dominant at times.
But the winner of this one immediately becomes the title favourite. Lose and it’s firmly out of your hands.
So how do teams go about this one? After all, City can just about feel comfortable with a draw here, while Liverpool need a win if they want to control their own fate this season.
Well, according to Jurgen Klopp, this game is only going one way.

“It very often doesn’t happen when two top teams face each other,” Klopp explained to a press conference. “I think our history with City shows that pretty often it’s an interesting watch.
“Because both teams really go for it. They want to create chances, want to use momentum, want to use gaps, situations – all these kinds of things. That’s why I expect an interesting football game, to be honest.”
Make no mistake, then – Liverpool area going to go for the win at the Etihad. While it’s what you’d expect, Klopp is right about it not happening very often.
So many games between top teams are cautious, especially when there’s so much on the line. After all, losing this one is disastrous for either side and playing to avoid defeat is the safe option.
But Klopp isn’t shy about his tactics. He’s going to play to win and take advantage of every situation he can in the game. Again, it’s what you’d expect and the boss isn’t going to pretend otherwise. City are getting attacked come Sunday.
