Liverpool still want to sign Brazilian defender Gleison Bremer, according to reports. That’s despite a massive price rise.
This comes from Goal. They claim that Liverpool remain in the race for Gleison Bremer – though, they don’t lead it. Inter are in front for the Torino star, who could cost around £20m this summer.
This isn’t the first time we’ve seen links between Liverpool and Bremer. Corriere Granata reported interest back in late 2020, in the midst of the Reds’ injury crisis. They went in a different direction, of course, but the interest appears to still be there.
Just at a much higher price. Bremer is far more established now, as reflected in his £20m price tag. Back in 2020, Torino reportedly would have accepted around £5.4m. That’s quite a dramatic rise, then.
If Liverpool truly do remain interested, they must rate the player highly.
Liverpool hold an interest in Gleison Bremer
We wrote about Bremer back in January 2021, right when Liverpool desperately needed a defensive signing. At the time, the interest made a lot of sense.
He was a 23-year-old defender with impressive stats. It was easy to see how he’d benefit from a short spell as first-choice before becoming more of a squad player behind Virgil van Dijk and Joel Matip.

But Liverpool have since signed Ibrahima Konate, who’s not only younger and more experienced but looks destined for stardom. Is there really room for Bremer, then?
It depends on what Liverpool plan to do with Joe Gomez, really. The Englishman isn’t playing very often and could fancy a move for first-team football this summer.
But if Liverpool aren’t using Gomez as is, they don’t really need to spend big in order to replace his role in the squad. £20m seems like too much money for a rarely-seen fourth-choice centre-back.
