‘Plenty about him’: BT Sport pundits expect Manchester United to look at 26-goal reported Liverpool target

BT Sport pundits expect Manchester United to want reported Liverpool target Darwin Nunez this summer. The Uruguayan is really impressing.

Liverpool took on Darwin Nunez on Tuesday evening and saw first-hand that he can score goals. The forward capitalised on a mistake from Ibrahima Konate to pull a goal back for Benfica – their consolation in a 3-1 defeat to the Reds.

And Nunez was certainly impressive. Not only did he score but he created two chances for teammates, won two headers and completed four dribbles at a 100% success rate.

Liverpool would rather he’d had an off night, of course, but it’s safe to say he raised eyebrows. That’s particularly notable as the club supposedly want Nunez.

The Daily Star linked the Reds back in October, while O Jogo recently made a similar claim. The pundits in the BT Sport studio doubt Liverpool are the only ones looking, though.

Both Michael Owen and Peter Crouch like what they see from Nunez but the latter predicts that Manchester United will have a look at Nunez.

“He looks like the next striker from Uruguay’s conveyor belt,” said Owen. “He’s going to give Liverpool problems. He could be the next one to join a Premier League club. He’s got plenty about him.”

“He has,” added Crouch. “I think Manchester United will look at him.”

Darwin Nunez and Liverpool

Nunez is having a sensational season – his goal on Tuesday was his 26th across the Primeira Liga and Champions League. We imagine every top club in Europe has eyes on him as a result.

Liverpool will be no different – and United certainly will. But we can’t see him moving to Anfield, not unless a current star departs this summer.

There just isn’t room for a sixth elite forward in a team that only starts with three. So while Nunez is very impressive, it makes more sense for him to land elsewhere. Admittedly, we’d rather it wasn’t Old Trafford.
