Journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Liverpool have no chance of signing Erling Haaland, despite Jurgen Klopp’s admiration for the player.
Giving an update via Twitter, Romano claimed that Liverpool ‘have never been involved’ in the race to sign the Norwegian.
Klopp reportedly ‘loves’ Haaland. But due to Liverpool taking an alternative approach in the transfer market, their ‘strategy on new signings will be different.’
Klopp speaks out
It has never been a realistic proposal that Liverpool would sign Haaland this summer. The big striker is on the market due to an active release clause in his contract at Dortmund.
The clause is said to be relatively low for a player of Haaland’s quality. But as a result, his wages are likely going to be astronomical.
Klopp is reported to have spoken on the matter of the striker’s availability just today.

“We will not be going near there,” Klopp told Sport Bild via The Times of India. “The figures being mentioned out there are crazy. We have nothing to do with them. No chance.
“That’s something I honestly don’t want. That’s no fun at all.”
In a class of their own
Liverpool’s Champions League rivals will be scrabbling about to find the funds for big names like Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland this summer.
Meanwhile, The Reds will be sensibly plotting and identifying more ‘under the radar’ players who can fit their system.

Liverpool’s scouts are some of the best around at spotting those who can slot into the way the team play. A player like Luis Diaz wasn’t exactly an unknown around Europe and neither was he cheap.
But he also didn’t come with the kind of wage demands an Mbappe or a Haaland are expecting.
Diaz was young, humble and on an upward trajectory. If Liverpool are aiming to do any business this summer, expect a few more players like that to be on their list.
