Liverpool could now be back in the picture to sign Kylian Mbappe on a free transfer this summer.
That’s according to L’Equipe, as translated by Sport Witness. They claim that Mbappe’s recent comments about his future are evidence of clubs other than Real Madrid ‘moving into the picture.’
The French star spoke about how ‘new elements’ have come into play in his decision. One of these elements is reported to potentially be from Liverpool.
The Reds were previously thought to have been priced out of a move for the 23-year-old. But they are now said to be pulling together a ‘bold financial package’ in order to convince Mbappe to move to Anfield.

Manchester City are named as another interested party. But Mbappe isn’t convinced by Pep Guardiola’s side due to their ‘lack of historical dimension.’
You’re telling me there’s a chance?
It would seem like fanciful thinking to believe that Liverpool have ever been truly in the race to sign Mbappe, but the latest reports do keep intrigue up.
It had appeared that Mbappe was heading to Real Madrid, but that transfer is now looking less and less certain to take place.
However, before you get too excited, the Reds reportedly have ‘no intention’ of breaking their wage structure to tie Mohamed Salah down to new terms (Fabrizio Romano via Anfield Watch). Seen through that lens it seems impossible that they would do the same for Mbappe.
It’s true that the World Cup winner is six-and-a-half-years younger than Salah. But it still seems incredibly unlikely that any financial package Liverpool could offer would be acceptable in this instance.

However, there is now less than three months to run on Mbappe’s contract and his future still isn’t sorted. Real Madrid were widely expected to have got a deal done by now but it hasn’t panned out that way.
Perhaps Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp could take advantage of the deadlock to convince the forward to make an unlikely decision.
We won’t hold our breath on this one, but at the same time, stranger things have happened in football.
