Ian Wright says he hopes Liverpool can win the Premier League title this season so they can celebrate with the fans at Anfield.

Wright made the comments while appearing on The Kelly & Wrighty Show via mullafabz on YouTube (28mins 33secs). He claimed that Manchester City could prioritise the Champions League, opening the door for Liverpool in the Premier League.

“I think Man City fans wouldn’t have a problem with someone being rested if that was the case [players were nursing knocks in Premier League games], because they want the Champions League,” said Wright.

“Liverpool fans would be delighted with that. Liverpool fans have won the Champions League now, they’ve done it and they’ve done it a couple of times.”

Due to Covid restrictions at the time, Liverpool won the Premier League for the first time ever behind closed doors in 2020.

And Wright names that as the reason that he’d like to see The Reds win the Premier League in-front of a full-house.

“I would like Liverpool to be able to win the Premier League so their fans can see it at Anfield. I’d like that to happen to them.”

Taking inspiration

There is some sadness around the fact that Anfield was empty as Liverpool lifted the Premier League trophy in 2020.

The wait for the trophy had been so long and built into something so momentous that it in some ways it felt like an anti-climax.

It’s something that has to act as inspiration for the players to go and do it again this season. That’s easier said than done against a team like City though.

Lifting a league title against Pep Guardiola’s winning machine was a massive effort from The Reds. Pep’s team are that good that winning another one sometimes feels impossible.

That makes it all the more important that when a chance does come along, the players give everything to make it happen.

Liverpool are just one point behind City with nine games to go. Every game is a final from now on and the clash with City at the Etihad in ten days time is the biggest of all.

Should Liverpool win that, they’ll be full of belief that Anfield will finally be full to see their team crowned champions.
