Report: Liverpool now want 'cold-blooded' 17-year-old who made senior breakthrough this season

Liverpool could try to sign Ismael Gharbi from Paris Saint-Germain, according to reports. The youngster isn’t sure about his future.

This comes from Goal. They claim that Ismael Gharbi only has a few months to run on his contract with Pari Saint-Germain and may not renew.

He’s unsure about his potential playing time – a worthy concern when you’re a young attacking player at PSG. The level of talent standing in front of him is incredible and they’re always hoping to sign more.

And so the 17-year-old Gharbi may not renew his contract. That alerts other elite clubs to the situation, with both Liverpool and Chelsea hoping to capitalise on PSG’s problem.

Liverpool want Ismael Gharbi

Now, we can’t claim to know all that much about Gharbi – he’s only played two senior games for PSG and both came in the cups. He’s very much a young up-and-coming talent but one with ability.

PSG don’t just throw kids into their first-team setup unless that ability is there, after all. Gharbi comes well-reviewed, too, with former player Mathieu Bodmer describing him as a ‘cold-blooded’ attacker.

Liverpool are always on the lookout for new stars for their next generation, too. Harvey Elliott and Kaide Gordon both arrived in recent seasons, with Ben Doak supposedly the next one to join.

Gharbi would fit into that quite well – but there’s an obvious problem here. If Gharbi is worried about first-team football with PSG, we’re not sure he fixes his issue by moving to Liverpool. The competition at Anfield is just as fierce.

So with that in mind, we’re really not sure Gharbi is on his way to Merseyside. We imagine Liverpool to push for it – he’d be free, after all – but the Reds don’t appear to be what the player is looking for.
