One former teammate of Liverpool’s Curtis Jones believes he has something in common with Erling Haaland. Edvard Tagseth has played with both.
Former Liverpool youngster Edvard Tagseth gave an interview to Liverpool.com this week where he discussed his time at the club. One particularly interesting subject was Curtis Jones, who Tagseth developed alongside in the academy.
The Scouser clearly left an impression on his Norwegian teammate, who says Jones is one of the best he’s ever trained with.
“When I went on a tournament with Liverpool at U14 or U15, you could tell straight away [Jones] was the main man and he just kept improving and doing really well for us,” said Tagseth. “So I’m not surprised where he is at now.
“I think he was only 17 or 18 when he was training more with the first team than us. I think he can become a Liverpool legend, already now when he plays he’s doing really well, so he can be really good. He’s one of the best players I’ve trained with.”
That’s particularly notable as Tagseth has played alongside at least one other elite player – Erling Haaland. And the midfielder does see a similarity between the two.
“I think both of them had the same, maybe cockiness, I spent more time with Curtis and he definitely had that,” said Tagseth. “But Erling as well was confident on the pitch and off the pitch.
“I think that’s important and I think they both have that confidence.”

That cockiness and arrogance was a huge part of Jones’s game coming through the ranks. He showed it regularly on arriving in the Liverpool first-team, too – though, we think it’s lacking a bit now.

Jones doesn’t quite offer the same drive that he used to and we wonder if irregular football plays a part in that. Because make no mistake – he has the talent to be an absolute superstar for Liverpool.
Will he ever be on Haaland’s level? Probably not. But Jones at his best is a similarly confident player and one who can leave his mark on any game. We’d just like to see a little more of it.
