Liverpool truly dodged a bullet on Ilaix Moriba, if reports out of Germany are correct. The Reds supposedly wanted the teenager.
Ilaix Moriba was a very interesting story this time last year. He was a potential superstar at Barcelona – but his contract was winding down. He wanted a pretty big contract to re-sign, Barcelona weren’t in favour.
But there was even a suggestion that Barcelona would go with Moriba over potentially signing Gini Wijnaldum. That was the level they saw him at, only for things to break down.
Every top club in Europe supposedly wanted Moriba – including Liverpool. 90min claimed there was interest there and we’re sure there was.
In the end, RB Leipzig brought the midfielder in but things didn’t go to play. It seems Liverpool really dodged a bullet on this one.
Liverpool looked at Ilaix Moriba
Leipzig gave Moriba a grand total of 30 Bundesliga minutes before shipping him out on loan to Valencia. He’s had more game time in Spain, featuring in six matches – but he’s been booked in three and sent off in another.

And reports out of Germany claim Moriba showed serious attitude problems in his short spell at Leipzig. Bild claim they’re the reason they Moriba left so quickly. The most bizarre story being that he had physios bring him grapes to eat during a massage.
Moriba apparently drove the manager up the wall and there’s now no intention to use him again. They’ll loan him out next season, too, out of a hope that his value will increase.
So it’s a good thing the Reds never went for him. Or, even more likely, these alleged attitude problems are why Liverpool never pursued Moriba. A fine example of talent not being everything when looking to add to your side.
