Liverpool might be able to sign Ousmane Dembélé a little easier after his contract offer from Barcelona expires. Jurgen Klopp is reportedly a fan of the player.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta confirmed on Saturday that their contract offer to Ousmane Dembélé has expired. He gives the impression, to Mundo Deportivo, that there was a substantial deal on the table but that’s no longer the case.
And that has a knock-on effect. Barcelona will now move forward with their planned wage structure for next season and any new offer for Dembélé must fit within that. In other words, if he didn’t like their last offer, he certainly won’t like their next one.
That inevitably makes things a little easier for clubs to sign Dembélé on a free transfer this summer. He’ll be one of the most in-demand players, you’d imagine – and Liverpool might just front the queue.
Liverpool and Ousmane Dembélé
Mundo Deportivo claimed earlier this month that Jurgen Klopp likes the idea of signing Dembélé. In fact, he’s ‘excited’ at the idea of bringing him in – should Mohamed Salah leave the club.

Now, we don’t think Salah will leave this summer. If he doesn’t renew, then it feels more likely that he sees out his deal and departs in 2023. Liverpool have previous for letting that happen, after all.
But we could be wrong and there’s certainly sense in trying to bring in Dembélé. He’s a fantastic talent – labelled a ‘phenomenon’ by Lionel Messi, even – and one that Liverpool could work wonders with.
The only real ‘problem’ here is that there are already so many forwards at the club. But with Salah, Sadio Mané and Roberto Firmino all entering the final year of their respective deals, we could see big changes.
And if that’s at all the plan, the door is open to Dembélé as a fantastic free transfer.
