Real Sociedad and Spain Under 21 midfielder Benat Turrientes explains why he has a YNWA tattoo inspired by Liverpool.
Benat Turrientes gave an interview to Marca this week where he discussed his life and career so far. The 20-year-old, who made his breakthrough with Real Sociedad this season, appears to have a very bright future ahead of him.
He’s certainly learning from the best. The midfielder has worked under Xabi Alonso in the youth setup – a local player who went on to be a world-beater.
But that’s not the only link Turrientes has with Liverpool. He also has a ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ tattoo on his forearm with a connection to the club. He explained exactly why to Marca.
“Yes, my father was very fond of Liverpool and the Liverpool song is You’ll Never Walk Alone,” said Benat. “He always played that song for us at home.
“It means you will never walk alone and when he passed away my sister and I got it tattooed for him. Every time I enter the field I kiss the tattoo and think of him always.”
So we can’t go as far as saying that Turrientes is a Liverpool fan – but there’s clearly a deep emotional connection there. And who knows? Maybe one day he’ll have the chance to follow the same path as Alonso, from Sociedad into the Reds’ midfield.

A few shades of Fernando Torres here, who wore a similar message on his arm while playing in Spain. It was famously his captain’s armband that said he was a Red, though.
And we’re sure it was the influence of Torres, Alonso, Luis Garcia, Pepe Reina and, of course, Rafa Benitez that led to Turrientes’s father holding an affinity for the club. They brought a special connection with Spain and it’s great to see how that’s carried on.
That era of Liverpool certainly left an impression across the water – Turrientes is a testament to that.
