AC Milan have put a seven-figure contract on the table to tempt Divock Origi away from Liverpool. His Reds deal expires this summer.

This comes from Gazzetta dello Sport. They report on AC Milan’s interest in taking Divock Origi away from Liverpool. There has been plenty of talk that the Belgian is off to Milan this summer but Gazzetta are the first to put a solid number on the table.

They claim Milan want to give Origi around £3.4m per year, working out to roughly £64,000 per week. That’s a small increase on his reported current Liverpool wage of £60,000 (per Spotrac).

Gazzetta also believe that the Italians will tie this one up quickly. Origi wants to leave Liverpool and appears to be impressed by Milan – they can certainly offer him a solid role in their squad.

Divock Origi to leave Liverpool

It’s not exactly a shock at this point and we fully expect Origi to leave the club soon. We imagine there will be confirmation of a verbal agreement sometime soon.

Though, there is one hangup here. The Athletic reports that Origi’s contract automatically extends by a year if he plays enough games for Liverpool this season.

Now, we don’t imagine he’ll play enough, given the competition upfront right now. But can he agree a pre-contract if that clause remains possible? What happens if he were to sign something with Milan and then somehow play enough games?

We do wonder, then, if the most we’re going to get before the end of the season is a verbal commitment from Origi. What’s clear is that he won’t get a new offer from Liverpool as Milan haven’t had to make a big financial commitment to get him.

It does feel like the last few months of the ‘exceptional’ Origi at Liverpool, then. Let’s hope he gets at least one more appearance in Red before it’s over.
