Robert Lewandowski could now be in line to leave Bayern Munich this summer and Liverpool should be interested in bringing him to Anfield.
Fabrizio Romano gave the latest update on Lewandowski on the Rio Ferdinand Presents FIVE YouTube channel (13mins) yesterday.
According to Romano, the Bayern striker will either sign a new deal or leave the club this summer. The transfer expert says there are ‘real chances’ that he will leave for either England or Spain.
That means that one of the greatest players of his generation could now be looking for a new challenge. Liverpool are one of a handful of clubs who would surely be attractive to Lewandowski.

It isn’t every day that a player of the Pole’s quality is on the market. As they did with his former Bayern teammate Thiago, Liverpool should break their transfer policy to try to bring Lewandowski to Anfield.
The Klopp connection
It cannot be overplayed just how much of an influence Jurgen Klopp has been for Lewandowski.
In an interview with ESPN in August 2020, the 33-year-old called Klopp his ‘favourite manager’ and said that he is ‘like a father.’
Klopp brought Lewandowski to Borussia Dortmund as a 21-year-old in 2010. He went on to score over 100 times in four seasons under the German’s leadership.
It should also be noted that the affection isn’t just from the player’s side. Klopp also holds his former striker in the highest regard.

Just last year the Liverpool boss called Lewandowski the best player he’d ever managed as per Sport Bild via The Daily Mail.
None of that means that a move will happen of course. But if the man who came second in last years Ballon d’Or is looking for a new challenge, why wouldn’t he see if he old boss fancies a reunion?
Answering the critics
There may be some who would scoff at the idea of bringing in a player of Lewandowski’s age. He will be 34 in August this year.
There will also be some who would point out that Liverpool aren’t currently willing to match Mohamed Salah’s wage demands. Why would they then attempt to sign a player who would possibly ask for a similar sum.
It’s a fair point. But if the Polish legend is looking for a new challenge then his destination likely won’t be purely based on money. His relationship with Klopp and the acknowledgement of the sporting merit of joining Liverpool could lead to reduced demands.

As for his age, well he’s already scored 45 goals this season. That’s just three less than last years final total. He certainly couldn’t be accused of being in decline. He scored a hat-trick in Bayern’s most recent Champions League knockout game which led to him being called ‘outstanding’ by teammate Serge Gnabry.
Liverpool could be looking for a new forward this summer. Although they would ideally look for someone in the 23-25 age bracket, if someone like Lewandowski is available, you break the mould.
It looks like Bayern are going to have to stick or twist with Lewandowski. Liverpool should be watching on with interest how it plays out.
