Journalist Paul Joyce gave an update on Liverpool and their pursuit of Fabio Carvalho this year. The 19-year-old nearly joined in January.
The Times journalist Paul Joyce sees no reason why Liverpool won’t complete the signing of Fabio Carvalho this summer. The Fulham playmaker is enjoying a wonderful season in the Championship and nearly signed for the Reds in January, of course.
Liverpool pushed hard to sign him on deadline day and it appeared for a long time that things would work out. But as the Athletic reported at the time, things collapsed at the last minute.
Joyce, however, doesn’t expect a repeat failure this summer. He told the Kenn7 YouTube channel that there’s no obvious reason why Liverpool won’t sign Carvalho.
“I think that comes back on the agenda in the summer,” said Joyce. “I could see that one getting done.
“The lengths Liverpool went to to try and get it over the line and the loan back meant they ran out of time. But I can see that getting resurrected in the summer and no reason why that one won’t go through.”
Liverpool want Fabio Carvalho
It makes sense – Liverpool really did push hard to get Carvalho before that deadline. The suggestion was that he would be loaned straight back to Fulham, too, so there’s a chance the team don’t miss out on anything here.

After all, the plan was for Carvalho to become a part of Liverpool’s first-team squad this summer. That can still be the case.
Not that there aren’t a few questions there. Liverpool actually have a fairly cramped squad right now and Carvalho is playing his best football as an attacking midfielder – a role the team doesn’t use.
So will he play centre-midfield? Maybe a False 9? We do see the potential for something exciting but we can’t be entirely sure what Liverpool plan to do here.
