Liverpool must look into signing Lovro Majer in the summer transfer window. The Croatian is having an unbelievable season.
Rennes lost Eduardo Camavinga in the summer – a big but expected blow. The Frenchman is one of the most promising youngsters in the world right now and was never going to stay at Rennes for too long.
But while that was expected, few could have seen the club finding another incredible talent immediately afterwards. They’ve done just that, however, bringing in Lovro Majer from Dinamo Zagreb.
Majer is a 24-year-old midfielder who is currently outperforming everyone in Europe when it comes to goal creation. In fact, his data is so impressive that Liverpool, surely, will look into signing him.

So the big stat to start with is ‘Goal Creating Actions’ or GCA. Statsbomb define that as any of the two offensive actions before a shot. It’s a way of judging how often someone breaks down a defence, even if they’re not necessarily getting the assist themselves.
Majer averages 1.24 goal-creating actions per 90. That’s an incredible number – so high that no one else across Europe’s top five leagues matches it.
And it’s not as though we’re talking about a niche stat here that doesn’t reflect true quality. The seven players following Majer are Lionel Messi, Florian Wirtz, Thomas Muller, Christopher Nkunku, Mohamed Salah, Paul Pogba and Kylian Mbappe.
In other words, some of the best players in Europe this season.
Majer’s other stats translate to a ‘Liverpool’ midfielder, too. He averages over 22 pressures per 90, for instance, which is right inline with the Reds’ other options there. He carries the ball well, too, with over eight ‘progressive carries’ per 90 – in the 98th percentile for midfielders across Europe’s top five leagues.
And in terms of good, hard stats, Majer boasts three goals and eight assists in Ligue 1 this season. He’s performing at an incredible level, getting results and only turned 24 in January. We can only imagine how far a manager like Jurgen Klopp could take him.
We think Liverpool must have eyes on Majer as everything he’s doing right now looks fantastic. If there’s any chance of a transfer this summer, we can’t think of a better midfield development project. That’s certainly what the data says.
