Paris Saint-Germain have Liverpool transfer guru Michael Edwards on their shortlist after a humiliating Champions League exit. He’s set to leave Anfield in May.

This comes from the Telegraph. They claim that Paris Saint-Germain have now added Liverpool director Michael Edwards to their shortlist ahead of a rebuild this summer.

PSG crashed out of the Champions League in humiliating fashion last week, of course. Though, that wasn’t exactly the first time that happened, just the most recent.

It appears they’ll finally try to rethink the way they do things, including moving on from long-time sporting director Leonardo. That means bringing in someone new and PSG are looking at people all over Europe.

One of those is Edwards, who has overseen tremendous growth at Liverpool over the last 10 years. He’ll leave Liverpool at the end of this season, however, and it’s expected that several top clubs will try to bring him on board.

While the Reds should be okay, Edwards could be a major signing for many.

Honestly, this would be a strange move unless PSG completely rethink how they operate. Maybe they will – but it would mean dramatic change.

It’s a club that have attempted to sign stars at every turn, whether they actually fit the club or not. Spending enormous amounts of money on fees and wages is their go-to but not a very successful plan.

Edwards, however, has made his name by finding talents who aren’t quite at the top level yet. He’s struck deals for players who are just under that level, perhaps with doubts hanging over them, and then trusting Jurgen Klopp and co. to develop them on.

Is that something PSG would actually do? We’re not so sure and if they don’t, why would Edwards be their man? But then, no club really operates like PSG, so it’s unclear who could possibly be a fit for them.
