Thiago put in an all-action performance for Liverpool vs Arsenal on Wednesday night. The Spaniard did everything out there.
Liverpool are just one point behind Manchester City in the title race after a pretty comfortable win over Arsenal. And that’s a big deal – this was supposed to be where the Reds slipped up.
Mikel Arteta’s side had won five in a row, looking better than they have done in years. The Reds restricted them to only one real chance, however, (created by Liverpool themselves) and put away both of their golden opportunities.
There were a lot of quality performances from Liverpool. Alisson Becker’s world-class goalkeeping robbed Arsenal of their big moment, while both centre-backs were brilliant. Diogo Jota was clinical in front of goal, too, while the full-backs limited the opposition wide players.
But one player did absolutely everything last night – including setting up that Arsenal chance. Thiago was all-action for Liverpool in a brilliant display.
Thiago excels for Liverpool vs Arsenal
The Spaniard is certainly known for his passing and that was on show for Liverpool. He got the assist for Jota’s opener, after all – one of three chances he created for Liverpool. No one else on the pitch matched that.
In fact, Thiago had match-highs defensively, too. He led everyone in tackles (six) and interceptions (four). Thiago even managed three headers, which only Fabinho topped.
When you add that assist, this was a truly brilliant performance from Liverpool’s no.6. He gave exactly the performance the Reds needed, particularly in the second half. Thiago controlled Arsenal with and without the ball, helping Liverpool just about shade possession and created the decisive goal.

Of course, he also nearly assisted Arsenal for the decisive goal. If not for Alisson’s brilliance, we might be saying something very different about Thiago.
It is always special to see this from Thiago, a player Jurgen Klopp considers to be ‘world-class’. In fact, it’s not even the first time he’s put in such a performance against Arsenal – we loved his game at Anfield against the Gunners.
And in big games, Thiago has a habit of stepping up and controlling things. He certainly did so at the Emirates and that could prove vital in the title race come May.
