Oakley Cannonier was simply in awe of Thiago after taking part in Liverpool training, according to reports. The Spaniard leaves an impression.

The Athletic put out a feature on Oakley Cannonier earlier today as the youngster continues to make waves at Liverpool. The 17-year-old is scoring for fun at Under 18 level – 20 goals in 17 games, to be precise – while he’s got strikes in both the Youth Cup and UEFA Youth League.

It’s a phenomenal record and while there are still many steps to come, Cannonier is someone to get excited about. Liverpool certainly are as they’re starting to integrate him with senior training.

Getting a talented youngster in and around the senior stars is always a major step but one that can help immensely. After all, Cannonier needs to know the level to strive for – and it’s very high at Liverpool..

One player, in particular, left the youngster in awe, though. Thiago, arguably the most technically gifted player at Liverpool, was apparently something special.

Very few people on the planet are capable of what Thiago is with a football – so we’re not surprised he left Cannonier in awe. You just have to hope that the youngster feels inspired to compete at that level now.

Liverpool appear to believe he has the potential to. There were reports back at the start of the season that they likened him to Philippe Coutinho – only with more goals. That’s a frankly ridiculous prospect, even if there’s a long way to go yet.

What is for sure, though, is that Cannonier just keeps scoring at Under 18 level. So much so that his promotion to Under 23 level is surely imminent. That’ll be the next big test and if the youngster produces similar numbers, we’ll be talking about the first team before long.
