Jurgen Klopp believes Liverpool fans would love Ousmane Dembélé, according to reports. The Frenchman could replace Mohamed Salah.

This comes from Mundo Deportivo. They claim that Jurgen Klopp is a fan of Ousmane Dembélé and believes he could make it at Liverpool.

It’s an especially important stance as the German is increasingly worried over Mohamed Salah. The Egyptian has one year left on his contract after this season, putting the club into a very difficult position.

Should Salah leave – and it’s a very real possibility – Klopp could turn to Dembélé, it seems. It’s a fairly obvious one to complete, given the player will likely leave Barcelona for nothing at the end of his contract this summer.

Ousmane Dembélé at Liverpool

It’s not exactly the first we’ve heard of something like this. Cuatro and Sport are two outlets who have said Liverpool like Dembele in the past, for instance.

We’ve talked about the potential here, too – and it’s definitely there. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang recently labelled his new teammate ‘unbelievable’ and that’s an impression Dembele often leaves.

He’s a two-footed, lightning-quick winger who has demonstrated an ability to do everything in attack. What’s not to love?

Honestly, just the fact that Dembélé doesn’t do it particularly often. He’s become incredibly inconsistent at Barcelona, with injuries and poor form throwing things off. Any team that signs him must find a way to get consistent performances.

And that’s the big concern over Dembélé potentially replacing Mohamed Salah. Salah is one of the most consistent forwards around, after all, and has been for some time.

It’s quite a step-down to Dembélé but maybe there’s another way to look at this. Liverpool already boast elite forwards who can take on larger roles – the Frenchman would be a wildcard try at adding more world-class quality.

Because Dembélé certainly boasts the potential to do that. Few players do but on his day, he’s a sensational player with talent few match. If Liverpool are willing to take a chance on it becoming consistent talent, perhaps there’s some real sense here.
