Liverpool are looking to add Swedish forward Alexander Isak to their ranks in this summer’s transfer window.
That’s according to The Sunday Mirror (13/03 p67), who claim that The Reds are ‘keen’ on Isak and have joined Manchester United and Arsenal in the race to sign him.
But he won’t come cheap. As previously reported by Mundo Deportivo, the Real Sociedad striker signed a new deal last summer and has a release clause of around £75m.

If La Real held out for the full amount, that would equal Liverpool’s record transfer outlay.
It seems hefty for a player who’s numbers have dropped of quite alarmingly this season. After a brilliant year in La Liga in 2020/21, where he scored 17 goals, the 22-year-old has struggled to put the ball in the net this campaign.
Four goals in 23 appearances is a disappointing return. Although Isak has been more prolific in the Europa League where he has three goals in six games.
Perhaps his concentration has been affected by the rumours linking him with a high profile exit. Either way, those numbers may have to improve if he is to earn a move to a top English side this summer.

More than just a goalscorer
One person who thinks that Jurgen Klopp should go all in for Isak is Jose Enrique. The former Liverpool left-back spoke glowingly about the Swede in December last year, calling him a ‘perfect’ profile for The Reds.
“Isak is definitely perfect for Liverpool’s profile of signings, a young player, not spending 100’s of millions you’re going to spend £50-60m, definitely I would go for him,” Enrique told metro.co.uk.
As anyone who watched him at last summers European Championships will attest, Isak is certainly a player with potential.

The forward didn’t manage a goal at the tournament. But he impressed with his all-round play and cleverness between the lines.
At times his displays were reminiscent of the way Roberto Firmino plays for Liverpool. As Klopp may soon have to start thinking about who is tasked with filling the shoes of Liverpool’s number nine, that’s a point worth making.
In that respect, Isak could certainly fit the bill as a forward who’s contributions can’t be judged on goals alone. But the prices being quoted may deter Liverpool who will no doubt have a list of alternative targets.
