Liverpool striker Paul Glatzel is ‘distraught’ after suffering another injury set-back whilst out on loan at Tranmere Rovers.
Speaking to Official Tranmere Rovers on YouTube (2mins 50secs), manager Micky Mellon said that the Liverpool loanee had likely picked up a hamstring injury.
Glatzel was forced off early in the second half as Tranmere claimed a dramatic 3-2 win over Mansfield Town.

“I think he’s done his hamstring again, he’s distraught the lad, it’s really sad,” said Mellon. “But he’s showed character before and he’ll get the support.”
It’s the latest in a long line of injury issues for Glatzel. The 21-year-old had been in good form for Tranmere towards the end of last year.
But after scoring in consecutive League 2 games in November, he then missed the next six weeks of action.
Having got himself fit again, he managed a goal and an assist against Swindon Town on February 8th. That proved to be another false dawn as he wasn’t available for for another month, making his return on March 5th.

Unfortunately for Glatzel, he has only been fit enough to start 10 of Tranmere’s 36 League 2 games this season. But Mellon remains optimistic that he’ll be back to aid their promotion push soon enough.
“He’s obviously very disappointed, but he’ll get the support from us and hopefully we’ll have him back as soon as possible.”
A missed opportunity
It’s such a shame to see Glatzel’s body letting him down again. As an 18-year-old, he was deemed good enough to train with Jurgen Klopp’s first-team squad.
Since then it has been one set-back after another for the forward. It had been hoped that a loan move in the lower divisions could help him rediscover the form that saw him score 29 goals in 34 games for Liverpool under-18’s in 2018/19.

Unfortunately it hasn’t panned out that way so far. Although he has at times shown why Klopp was so keen to involve him, he hasn’t been able to prove his fitness.
Hopefully it isn’t serious and he’s back on the pitch and scoring again soon.
