A very strong Liverpool Under 23s team smashed Tottenham Hotspur 7-1 on Saturday afternoon. The Reds’ team was bursting with talent.
Liverpool Under 23s showed their incredible strength on Saturday as they tore their Tottenham counterparts to shreds. In fact, the team saw six different goalscorers in a fantastic display of quality.
Leighton Clarkson scored two penalties, both full-backs – Conor Bradley and James Norris – found the net, as did Jack Bearne, Max Woltman and Fidel O’Rourke
O’Rourke, a 20-year-old striker from Liverpool, had his third goal in two games with the strike. It comes after scoring a brace against Preston North End last time out that saw manager Barry Lewtas applaud the ‘unselfish’ forward for adding goals.
O’Rourke came off the bench on this occasion – suggesting he’s found a knack of late.
All in all, this was an incredibly promising display from a strong-looking Liverpool Under 23s side. The future looks very bright with that lot performing this well.
Liverpool Under 23s win 7-1
It’s not a big surprise when you look at the XI here. It’s full of players Liverpool have enormous hopes for – some of whom have performed at senior level already.
Marcelo Pitaluga started in goal – someone who could be set for a first-team role next season. Conor Bradley and Rhys Williams both featured at the back, too, and both have played with the seniors on several occasions. Billy Koumetio, who has also made an appearance, partnered Williams.
James Norris, who played for the senior side in that EFL Cup game against Aston Villa in 2019, played from left-back.

Centre-midfield featured both Clarkson and Tyler Morton. The two of them have played Champions League football for Liverpool, with Morton appearing quite a bit in this campaign.
Max Woltman played up top – a player who featured in the Champions League against AC Milan this season and started in the FA Cup against Shrewsbury. Mateusz Musialowski was out there, too, as a young player we’re very excited about.
Liverpool have a lot to love in their youth system right now and the 7-1 emphatically underlines that. Throw in players like Kaide Gordon and Harvey Elliott (both younger than nearly everyone mentioned) and the future appears very, very bright.
