Luis Diaz is expected to start for Liverpool against Brighton & Hove Albion tomorrow, with Roberto Firmino returning to the bench.
That’s according to The Athletic, who claim that Diaz is in line to make his fifth Premier League start since joining Liverpool in January.
It will present another chance for Diaz to add to the one goal he has scored for The Reds so far.
The 25-year-old has been superb for Liverpool and was recently hailed as being ‘fantastic’ by Jordan Henderson via BBC Sport.
Those comments came after the Colombian’s last start – the 1-0 win over West Ham United last weekend.
Silencing the critics
But somewhat unbelievably, not everyone has been impressed with Diaz at Liverpool.
He missed a late chance in front of The Kop against Inter Milan on Tuesday. That led to Colombian legend Faustino Aprilla claiming that Diaz was being ‘eaten up by anxiety’ playing for The Reds (Sport Witness).
As anyone who has watched the £37.5m man playing in red will attest, he looks far from being anxious.
But it does go to highlight the scrutiny which is now placed on him in his homeland. Diaz is one of, it not the, biggest star for Colombia.
His every performance will expectedly be put under the microscope in South America. But the assertion from Asprilla seems unfair.
Hopefully Diaz can put that kind of talk to rest with a goal or two at the Amex Stadium tomorrow.
What about Bobby
Klopp confirmed in his pre-match press conference that Firmino is back in the matchday squad.
The Brazilian had been missing since scoring the opening goal in the 2-0 win over Inter Milan on February 16th.
After that game, Klopp said that he would be out of action ‘for a while’ (The Mirror), so it’s good to see Bobby return after missing less than a month.
It means that Klopp has a full set of attacking options available to him as Liverpool look to close the gap at the top of the Premier League to three points.
