Joe Gomez is hopeful that Liverpool will allow him to leave the club at the end of this season.

That’s according to 90min. They claim that the Liverpool man will ask to be sold in order to boost his chances of being included in England’s World Cup squad.

Gomez hasn’t played for the national team since August 2020.

90min report that England manager Gareth Southgate sees Gomez as one of his best centre-back options, but is reluctant to pick him if he isn’t playing at club level.

The report claims that ‘more than half the Premier League’ are interested in signing Gomez from Liverpool.

Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspurs, West Ham United and Newcastle United are named as showing the ‘biggest interest.’

This is contrary to earlier reports who have cited Aston Villa as being in pole position for the 24-year-old.

Just yesterday, The Athletic reported that Villa ‘still like’ Gomez as they explore the possibility of making a move.

If Gomez is to leave Liverpool, it would likely fetch Liverpool a huge profit on the £3.5m they paid to bring him from Charlton Athletic in 2015.

No asking price is explicitly stated in the report this morning, only that Gomez carries a ‘hefty price-tag.’

The centre-back has two years remaining on his current deal with Liverpool. If The Reds don’t see him as a long-term option for them, it may make sense to sell him this summer.

Klopp wants Gomez to stay

However, Jurgen Klopp has previously stated his admiration for the qualities of Gomez. In February the manager described him as ‘incredible’ via liverpoolfc.com.

He also had words of encouragement about the player’s future at the club.

“Joe takes it (not being in the team) really professional so far and knows he’s still a young lad and everything will be fine in the future,” said Klopp.

That suggest that Klopp sees him as part of his plans. But that will largely depend on if Gomez remains satisfied with his role in the squad.

If, as reported today, he isn’t, then Klopp may have to reluctantly think about moving him on.
