Liverpool will surely feel the frustration as Eduardo Camavinga shines for Real Madrid. The Frenchman could have worn Red.
Real Madrid performed something of a miracle against Paris Saint-Germain last night. Or at least, it would have been if PSG didn’t essentially give up once things got tough.
Still, Real proved they were a level above their opponents with their performance and a few individuals really caught the eye. Karim Benzema rightly took the headlines with his hat-trick, while Luka Modric was sensational in the comeback.
Vinicius Jr, too, played his part with constant running and Real’s defence found a way to neutralise Kylian Mbappe. One other player stood out for us – Eduardo Camavinga. The Frenchman more than played his part.
Liverpool wanted Eduardo Camavinga
Camavinga entered the fray in the second half, coming on for Toni Kroos. Within four minutes, Real had their first goal of the game.
The teenager added wonderful energy to Real’s midfield, getting about the pitch and offering a passing option. He’d use physicality to help establish control and kept his nerve – Camavinga completed 96% of his passes.
It was a really composed performance from a 19-year-old who’s still very much making his way at Real. And will Liverpool feel frustrated at this?

Sport claimed back in early 2020 that Liverpool wanted Camavinga. They were one of a few sides – including Real Madrid – who had eyes on the then-Rennes midfielder.
That wasn’t the only outlet, either, and talk continued for a few months that Liverpool might make a move. No one did, however, and Camavinga remained at Rennes until the summer of 2021. Real picked him up before his contract expired in 2022, essentially.
Could Liverpool have made a proper move, then? There was a full year before anyone snapped Camavinga up – and that was a real opportunity. Especially as the teenager feels like the right kind of midfielder for the Reds right now.
We can’t help but feel it was an opportunity missed.
