Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier believes Liverpool star Mohamed Salah is one of the two best players he’s faced. The Egyptian carries a big reputation.
Illan Meslier, the youngest regular goalkeeper in the Premier League this season, got an interesting question put to him this week. Who is the best player he’s faced with Leeds United?
He actually found it too hard to choose, telling the Premier League’s Youtube channel that he had two picks.
“I can say two? Mohamed Salah was, and Kevin De Bruyne, too,” said the 22-year-old. And you’ve got to say, those two are the unstoppable forces right now.
Illan Meslier on Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah
Not exactly a shock choice there – on either count. Salah and De Bruyne are sensational players who truly do look a step ahead of the rest. Certainly for any watching goalkeeper like Meslier.
Salah, after all, leads the Premier League by some way for goals. He’s even competing at the top of the assist charts, such is his overall dominance this season.

And De Bruyne has, like Salah, been one of the best in the world over the last few years. He tore Manchester United to shreds at the weekend, in fact, with a magnificent performance.
Meslier has had a torrid time against Salah, in particular. He conceded a hat-trick to the Egyptian at Anfield last season and then another three in two games this season. It’s six in three starts for Salah – an incredible record.
We’ll certainly opt for Salah as the best in the league but we don’t begrudge Meslier for picking two – they’re hard to separate. Liverpool and Manchester City have been the best teams in the league for some time now and these two are a massive reason why.
