Report: Liverpool suffer transfer blow as 'outstanding' target signs new contract

Liverpool appear to have suffered a transfer blow as Pedro Neto agrees a new contract with Wolves. The Portugal winger is allegedly a target.

Wolves announced on Wednesday that Pedro Neto has a new contract with the club. The 22-year-old, who had a deal until 2025, extends his deal by two years. It’ll now be 2027 before he’s without a deal.

Neto exploded onto the scene last season, quickly becoming one of the best young wingers in the Premier League. He filled the void of Diogo Jota, essentially, and looked on the cusp of being a superstar.

But then injury hit and Neto lost nearly a year of his career. It was originally supposed to be a six-month absence but a setback kept the player out even longer.

What that did do, however, is keep Neto at Wolves. His form had teams circling for his signature, only he was unavailable in the summer because of the injury.

Liverpool were reportedly one of those teams and news of a new contract will surely feel like a blow.

Liverpool like Pedro Neto transfer

Goal claimed back in the summer that Liverpool liked Neto and could push for a deal when the time is right. That was before the injury setback, however.

But the interest makes complete sense. Neto is a brilliant talent and we believe there is a potential superstar there. We saw how much Jota improved in Red – Neto could follow suit.

This new contract makes things difficult, though. Wolves now have absolute power over any sale and Neto’s price certainly won’t decrease in the coming years. If Liverpool still want the player, they’ll have to pay a fortune.

It is debatable whether a deal was ever going to happen in the next year or two, though. After all, Liverpool would want to see full recovery from this injury – July 2022 will come too soon for any transfer.

We still think Neto is one to watch for Liverpool fans. While he now won’t move on the cheap – and needs to prove his fitness – his ‘outstanding’ talent will almost certainly justify any transfer fee down the line. Let’s see what happens.
