Report: Liverpool make first move to sign ‘complete’ 19-year-old attacker with £67m release clause

Liverpool have made initial contact over Yeremi Pino, according to reports. The Villarreal wide player is having a breakout season.

This comes from El Desmarque in Spain. They claim that Liverpool are one of several clubs that have made contact with Villarreal for Yeremi Pino.

Real Madrid appear to lead any race but Manchester City, Arsenal and Newcastle United have also put in their interest. This will be a fierce race.

And that, quite obviously, is fantastic news for Villarreal. Pino boasts a £67m release clause, says the report, and such rich interest brings a very good chance of a club meeting it. Any club that does will get a very interesting young player.

Liverpool like Yeremi Pino

Pino is a 19-year-old wide-right player who’s having a breakout campaign. He’s started 18 games in La Liga for Villarreal, with another five in the Champions League. Seven goals and four assists have followed – a really solid return.

It is worth mentioning that four of those goals came in one game against Espanyol. At the same time, it shows that Pino is capable of scoring four goals in one La Liga game.

One look at Statsbomb data on FBref shows why big clubs will have raised eyebrows here, though. Pino works incredibly hard defensively, sitting in the 99th percentile for blocks across the top European leagues in his position.

He ranks highly in tackles and interceptions, too, suggesting there really isn’t much to worry about with Pino. You can throw him into the side despite his age and expect a solid performance. Few forward-thinking players can do that.

In fact, it’s easy to see how Pino could develop into either a winger or a right-back. He’s still young enough for any buying side to choose – and that makes him incredibly valuable. There’s a reason manager Unai Emery says he’s capable of a ‘complete’ performance, after all.

We’d say Pino is one to watch over the coming months, then. With so much interest, there’s a very good chance he moves on in the summer. Liverpool may well be the ones waiting for him.
