Lucas Leiva has claimed that if Liverpool can get ahead of Manchester City, they won’t drop any more points in the Premier League this season.
Speaking to The Athletic, Lucas was invited to give his thoughts on whether he thinks Liverpool can win the title.
“Nobody expected that Liverpool would be in this position by March,” said the former Reds midfielder.

“City were ahead by miles. But it shows the mentality of Liverpool and how difficult the Premier League is. Now the league is open, completely open and I have the feeling that if Liverpool gets in front, they will not drop any more points.”
That’s a bold statement from Lucas but one which we wholeheartedly endorse!
All eyes on the Etihad
If Liverpool are to get ahead of City, the game at the Etihad Stadium on April 10th still looks like their best of bet of doing so.
Pep Guardiola’s side served a reminder that they won’t lie down lightly on Sunday afternoon.
The Manchester Derby had looked like a potential banana skin for City. But they brushed Manchester United aside with a comfortable 4-1 victory.
That restored their lead at the top back to six points after Liverpool beat West Ham United on Saturday evening.

The Reds do still have a game in hand to their name. But it shouldn’t be taken as a given that Liverpool will win that one as it comes away to in-form Arsenal.
Jurgen Klopp’s team will have to be at their very best to ensure that they keep pace with the leaders.
If they can go into the game in Manchester just three points behind City, they will have a real chance of winning the title once again.
Best wishes from Rome
It’s great to hear that former players like Lucas are still invested in The Reds.
The 35-year-old played 347 games for Liverpool and obviously has a huge emotional connection with the club.

He is currently at Lazio alongside fellow former Reds Pepe Reina and Luis Alberto. Lucas says he still watches his old club alongside the Spanish pair.
“We’re together a lot. Liverpool is a part of my life,” he said.
Lucas and the evergreen Reina made 742 Liverpool appearances between them. They know a thing or two about the mentality needed at the club.
Let’s hope his predictions are as good as the regard he is held in by Sir Kenny Dalglish!
