Carragher says Jurgen Klopp must get used to irritated stars at Liverpool

Jamie Carragher says Jurgen Klopp must brace himself for some negative reactions from players at Liverpool. There’s a new reality at Anfield.

Mohamed Salah didn’t enjoy his finest game at Anfield against West Ham United. The Egyptian should have scored almost immediately must a poor finish ruined the opportunity. Outside of that, he just couldn’t get a clean view at goal.

And so it wasn’t a great surprise when Jurgen Klopp decided to take off the top scorer at Liverpool. Salah left the pitch with 78 minutes gone, replaced by Diogo Jota.

But he certainly wasn’t happy about it. Salah was visibly annoyed to be going off – it meant a missed chance to extend his Golden Boot chase.

And according to Jamie Carragher, it’s the kind of reaction Klopp must get used to.

“[Liverpool] now have five genuine players who genuinely believe they should be in the front three, certainly when Roberto Firmino is back,” he said on Sky Sports. “So I think you’re going to get a lot more of this and Jurgen Klopp will have to get used to that – the reaction of players when they come off.

“They were so used to playing 90 minutes week in, week out. We saw it with Salah today and we saw it with Sadio Mane in the cup final.”

It’s certainly a change. Liverpool’s front-three has largely been in stone since 2017. Salah, Sadio Mane and Firmino have been the most famed trio on the planet, in fact.

But none of them can guarantee themselves starts now, let alone 90 minutes. There’s just too much talent in attack, especially with the addition of Diaz, and the stars won’t have things quite as good as they used to.

That’s the ‘problem’ with having so many top players in reserve. We have little doubt that Klopp will succeed in managing it but as we’ve seen already, there will be some unhappy stars.
