Kostas Tsimikas says ‘unbelievable’ Takumi Minamino shows standards at Liverpool

Kostas Tsimikas believes Takumi Minamino is an ‘unbelievable’ player for Liverpool. In many ways, that shows the standards at the Reds right now.

Liverpool are into the FA Cup Quarter-finals for the first time since 2015 and they largely have Takumi Minamino to thank. The Japan international bagged a brace in the 2-1 win – both of which were fine finishes.

And that means Minamino now has nine goals this season, despite not actually starting in the Premier League. He’s been the Reds’ cup specialist, scoring vital goals when they’ve needed them. Wednesday was a fine example of just that.

Liverpool teammate Kostas Tsimikas certainly sees his quality. He feels Minamino is an ‘unbelievable player’ and a sign of the fantastic squad depth right now.

“Taki’s an unbelievable player, in my opinion,” he told Liverpoolfc.com. “We saw every player, no matter when he will play, will be ready – this is 100 per cent sure, we are hungry for that. 

“We will play for the win, we give everything. No matter who is playing, this is our mentality, this is our team spirit. We go for it no matter who is playing. You have to give everything for the win.”

Takumi Minamino makes waves at Liverpool

Minamino is the perfect example of an out-and-out squad player right now. In fact, you have to say that Liverpool are very fortunate to have him – something we wouldn’t have said when the campaign kicked off.

But he just keeps scoring despite playing without any momentum or rhythm whatsoever. Four in the EFL Cup, three in the FA Cup – even his Premier League record is notable.

Minamino has played 10 times scoring two goals. On the face of it, that’s nothing to shout about. In reality, he’s only played 89 minutes in the Premier League this season, meaning Minamino averages two goals per 90. That’s phenomenal, albeit with as small a sample size as possible.

And while Minamino gets goals, he’s not the only squad player thriving this season. Tsimikas himself, in fact, is a brilliant example of someone who isn’t first-choice but delivers to a high level regardless.

With squad depth like this, Liverpool can compete on four fronts this season. They have players, as Tsimikas says, who hit a high level every time they play, even if that’s not regularly. The mentality is fantastic and, with some luck, should deliver at least another trophy.
