Liverpool Under-18s progressed to the quarter-final of the UEFA Youth League this afternoon and Oakley Cannonier was in fine form.

The youngster born and raised in Leeds has caught the eye this season and he’s proving himself to be a real goal machine.

Cannonier fired home his 21st goal in 26 appearances earlier today as the Reds emulated the first team by winning on penalties.

Liverpool led through the striker’s latest goal but were pegged back by Jay-Dee Geusens’ equaliser just after the interval.

Cannonier has been lethal for the under-18s. He’s actually scored in all but three of Liverpool’s league games this season.

Arguably the pinnacle of his season came back in August when he scored a hat-trick during a 5-0 win over Manchester United.

Cannonier actually played an intriguing part in Liverpool winning the Champions League in 2019.

The teenager was the ball boy who passed the ball quickly to Trent Alexander-Arnold, allowing him to tee-up Divock Origi for the winner against Barcelona in the semi-final.

Now, the youngster will want to become a Liverpool hero based on his ability to score goals.

Liverpool starlet Cannonier can take Anfield by storm

The youngster has been on the bench once for the under-23s and it seems only a matter of time before he steps up.

At 17 he has bags of time on his side but he’s showcasing the sort of quality that could make him the next big thing.

Cannonier shows intelligence in his play way beyond his years and his prowess in the penalty area doesn’t go unnoticed.

His manager Marc Bridge-Wilkinson has raved about him this season.

In an interview with Goal, he said: “Oakley is a really good player. He scores goals, creates chances and threatens the backline.

Liverpool have a proud history when it comes to producing talented youngsters and in particular with strikers.

Cannonier looks like the new kid on the block and he could soon be taking Anfield by storm.
