Jurgen Klopp celebrated a huge victory over Leeds United last night in style.
The Reds boss showed a raucous Anfield crowd just what the 6-0 win over Marcelo Bielsa’s side meant.
As the players congratulated each other around him, Klopp delighted his players and the crowd alike by throwing fist pumps and roaring at The Kop.
Luis Diaz can be seen in the background with a mixture of shock and delight on his face. It is likely the first time he’s seen his new manager in this light. It’s certain that it won’t be the last!
Klopp also soaked up the celebrations with Virgil Van Dijk. The Dutch centre-half was imperious once again at the back for Liverpool.
He also added a cherry to the night as he powered home a header in-front of The Kop in the last moment of the game.
Captain for the night until Jordan Henderson’s second half introduction, it’s clear manager and player have a special relationship.
Midfield maestros
It was great to see Curtis Jones back on for pitch for Liverpool. The 21-year-old had been left out of the squad a couple of times recently and looked a little rusty early on.
But he soon grew into the game and showed exactly why Klopp has such faith in him. Jones could be seen sharing a joke with fellow midfielder Thiago Alcantara and unused substitute Kostas Tsimkas at the final whistle.
Thiago himself was excellent again. Liverpool won for the 12th consecutive time that he started a game. The 30-year-old clapped the crowd as he soaked up the applause for his 50th appearance for the club.
Klopp takes the headlines
But the overriding image of the night was Klopp’s display of emotion.
It’s rare that we see such an outpouring from the manager. His fist pumps towards the crowd are of course a regular sight at both home and away games.
But they are usually controlled and relatively restrained. Here, he punched the air six or seven times before beating his chest and bellowing at the crowd.
Klopp himself said after the game that the atmosphere during the match meant that he allowed himself to get carried away.
“If I’d been there 10 seconds later I wouldn’t have done it. But in that moment I got a little bit carried away, obviously it doesn’t happen too often anymore to me but in this moment it happened and absolutely fine for the moment,” the manager said via liverpoolfc.com.
Every so often we’re reminded how lucky we are to have this man as our manager. Last night was one of those occasions. Go for it, Jurgen!
