Liverpool have parked their interest in AC Milan midfielder Franck Kessie and will instead prioritise a move for Monaco star Aurélien Tchouaméni.
According to Tuttosport, the Reds will definitely go in search of a midfielder when the transfer window reopens during the summer.
Kessie had been thought to be on the radar. Recently it was thought that Liverpool were one of the sides most likely to ready a move for the 25-year-old.
Now, other Premier League clubs are in a better position. Newcastle and Tottenham are both eyeing moves to land the midfielder on a free in the summer.

Liverpool look to have moved on. Tchouaméni is likely to be a sought-after player during the summer given his undoubted potential.
This season he has been a mainstay in the Monaco team. He has scored three goals and claimed two assists, with the midfielder also collecting seven cautions.
At 22, he has bags of potential and he ticks a lot of boxes when it comes to suiting the criteria that Jurgen Klopp looks for.
Liverpool will need a midfielder. Jordan Henderson isn’t getting any younger, nor is Thiago Alcantara. The jury remains out on Naby Keita and Curtis Jones is still relatively raw.
Fabinho is a leading light but having a younger, more vibrant option in the engine room certainly wouldn’t go amiss.
Liverpool should move heaven and earth for Tchouaméni, Fabregas loves him
The Reds would be upsetting a lot of clubs by pulling off a deal to sign Tchouaméni and getting something over the line would represent a coup.
Previously he has been linked with Chelsea. Back in July when he was linked with a move to London, Cesc Fabregas offered an insight into what the Blues could expect, posting on Twitter:
Clearly, the youngster can play and signing him does seem to make a lot of sense.
Liverpool fans might prefer someone like Jude Bellingham to arrive. In Aurélien Tchouaméni, however, they’d be getting a player with a similar skillset and one who wouldn’t cost as much.
