Liverpool have been reported to be interested in bringing Jude Bellingham to Anfield this summer (The Mirror).
It’s hard to believe it, but Bellingham is still just 18-years-old. As a result, he has now been named as the “most exciting” teenaged player in world football by FourFourTwo.
Bellingham beat off competition from Liverpool’s very own superstar in the making Harvey Elliott.
The Reds youngster, also 18, came in fourth in the rankings.
Joining them in the top ten was Fabio Carvalho. The 19-year-old Fulham star was on the verge of becoming a Liverpool player on January transfer deadline day.
But as the paperwork couldn’t be completed in time, the move collapsed (BBC Sport). Liverpool may go back in for the player in the summer (Sky Sports).
If Liverpool follow through on reported interest, they could have three of the top young talents in the world. That’s not forgetting Kaide Gordon, who also snuck into the list at number 28.
To think, some said this Liverpool team was getting old!
How good is Bellingham
Since his debut for Birmingham City aged just 16-years-old, he has been earmarked as a potentially special player.
The Midlands club even retired his number 22 shirt when he left for Borussia Dortmund in 2020.
Since then, he has become a key player for the German side. His performances have earned him international recognition for England, where he looks set to be a fixture for the next decade or more.
He is clearly well thought of in Germany. Teammate and fellow wonderkid Erling Haaland recently described his English colleague as a “phenomenal talent” via ESPN FC podcast (30mins 35secs).
Bellingham would reportedly cost any club trying to buy him around £90m.
That sounds an incredible amount and would make him Liverpool’s record signing.
But this accolade is further proof of the regard he is held in. To convince such a player that Anfield is where his future lies would be a big coup for The Reds and would be a signal of intent to the rest of world football.
If Liverpool manage to pair Bellingham, Elliott and Carvalho together, surely that would be enough to persuade Jurgen Klopp to extend his contract beyond it’s current 2024 expiry date.
