Gallery: 'Outstanding' 21-year-old trains with Liverpool ahead of CL clash with Inter tonight

Liverpool have released photos of their final session before heading to Milan to play Inter in the Champions League.

In the photos, which were taken yesterday, Rhys Williams can be seen training with the first team.

Having failed to make an impression on loan at Swansea City during the first half of the season, the 21-year-old defender is back at Liverpool.

He is expected to take his place as fifth choice centre-back. That’s a result of Nat Phillips departing for Bournemouth on deadline day.

It’s easy to forget Williams’ contribution to Liverpool last season.

But contribute he certainly did, Klopp even called him ‘outstanding’ following an excellent Premier League debut against Tottenham Hotspurs in November 2020.

It’s good to see him back. But it would be a major shock if Williams was given any game time tonight.

No issues for the skipper

Jordan Henderson was also pictured in training. There was a worry the captain could miss the trip to Italy after picking up a knock against Burnley.

But he was pictured here looking ready for another huge Champions League game for The Reds.

Whether Henderson will play or not remains to be seen.

Thiago was excellent when he came on for Henderson on Sunday. It’s great to have him back fit again and he was put through his paces along with the rest of his teammates yesterday.

Options up front

Jurgen Klopp has some decisions to make regarding his front line. With the return of Sadio Mane, the manager now has a full compliment to choose from.

The three in the picture below is just one of the combinations that Klopp could choose to go with against Inter.

Mane also looks happy and relaxed going into the game. After a draining few weeks it may be slightly too much of an ask for him to start here.

But the game against Burnley will have served to get him back in the swing and there’s every chance he could play.
