Liverpool are maintaining an interest in Ajax’s Brazilian winger Antony.

That’s reported in 90min who claim that The Reds have been watching the 21-year-old for some time.

Antony joined Ajax from Sao Paulo in 2020. 90min report that Liverpool have been watching him since his time in Brazil.

The report also states that Liverpool have competition for Antony. Chelsea, Manchester City, Manchester United and a host of clubs from Spain and Italy hold an interest in the exciting winger.

But the player reportedly wants to play in the Premier League. Providing they can beat off the interest of their domestic rivals, that would give Liverpool a head-start in any negotations.

Who is he

Liverpool fans have been getting excited over the prospect of adding a Brazilian winger to their ranks for months.

The man in question plays in Leeds though, not Amsterdam.

On closer inspection there are many similarities in the way both Raphinha and Antony play.

They both look like incredibly skilful players who can beat a defender with trickery and pace. They also both like to play on the right-hand side cutting in onto their stronger left foot.

Stylistically, this would suit the way Liverpool want their attackers to play.

Antony has scored seven goals and added two assists in 18 Eredivisie games for Ajax this season. He also scored twice and laid on four goals in an impressive Champions League group-stage for the Dutch champions.

The 21-year-old who manager Erik Ten Hag called ‘incredible’ per 90min via Good Morning Oranje, has also played on the right at times.

He has seven caps and two goals for Brazil. This means he will be more than familiar with Liverpool’s already substantial Brazilian contingent.

How much would he cost

Ajax’s model of letting their best players leave is akin to what Southampton Chief Executive Martin Semmens detailed yesterday.

They often house some of the most exciting young players in the world. But they’re ready and willing to let them go once they start to show the kind of form that means they could get a big fee.

The club have sold players for huge money in the past. Both Matthijs de Ligt and Frenkie de Jong fetched the Amsterdammers over £65m each.

But Antony doesn’t quite have the same status as that pair. If Liverpool were to pursue a deal, it feels likely that they’d be able to get him for far cheaper than the £60m Leeds reportedly want for Raphinha.
