‘It’s crazy’: Klopp shares what ‘incredible’ player has been doing in training for Liverpool

Jurgen Klopp says new Liverpool signing Luis Diaz can’t stop smiling in training.

The boss was speaking via liverpoolfc.com ahead of the first-leg of Liverpool’s last-16 tie with Inter Milan. He said that Diaz’s joy at the AXA Training Centre is something he hasn’t seen before.

“We give Luis a little bit more time to adapt to it, but he is an incredible player. His joy and love for football is so obvious. When you see him training, he cannot stop smiling. I’ve never had a player like this, it’s crazy,” said Klopp.

Football should be enjoyable, it’s fantastic to hear the new boy is settling in and happy with his surroundings.

It is slightly surprising to hear Klopp’s admission. But then again, this is work for professional footballers. How many people can say they turn up for work every day with a great beaming smile?

By the sound of it Diaz certainly can, and that bodes very well for his career in red.

A player for now

So far Klopp has been easing his new player in. He perhaps surprisingly came off the bench for an effective half hour cameo against Cardiff City.

That was followed up with a hugely impressive full debut against Leicester City at Anfield. The Colombian’s ability to slot straight into the Liverpool front line whetted the appetite for what is to come.

But Klopp sensibly pumped the brakes to give Diaz a rest on Sunday at Turf Moor.

That could put him in line for a starting spot in Milan tonight.

Having reportedly brought the transfer forward from the summer, it makes sense to bed Diaz in properly before expecting too much from him.

But as the manager suggests, he’s also ready to have an instant impact.

“We are so, so happy to have him here, it’s absolutely great. We expect a lot from him in the future; now already but in the future as well,” said Klopp.

“I have a good feeling it will be a really nice story with Luis at Liverpool.”
