Mohamed Salah may very well be the best footballer on the planet right now.

But speaking to WALK ON, Liverpool’s new official eMagazine, Virgil Van Dijk claimed that his teammate still can’t get the better of him in training.

“He doesn’t dribble past me in training!” joked the Dutchman when asked if Salah is the best player in the world, before praising the Egyptian.

“No, in this form he is definitely up there as the best player of the year at the moment, but he has been doing that for years,” said Van Dijk.

“He is so consistent, the numbers speak for themselves and at the end of the day you get the spotlight when the team is doing well.”

The centre-back went on to highlight the importance and quality of the goals Salah has scored this season.

“It’s a team game and so far we have had a good start to the season. Mo has been vital to that, he has been incredible with the goals he has scored and the importance he has,” continued the Dutchman.

“We are very happy that he is with us and we want him to continue that as well.”

Clash of the titans

Salah vs Van Dijk is very much in irrepressible force meets immovable object territory. To witness two titans of their craft trying to get the better of each other on a daily basis in training must be a treat to watch.

Liverpool fans are lucky to have two such iconic players in the squad at the same time.

The two are also clearly close. Liverpool’s record signing couldn’t hide his delight when Salah returned to training earlier this month.

Although Virgil was clearly joking in his playful jibe at Mo, it wouldn’t be a surprise if there were some truth to his claim.

The Reds’ number 4 went an incredible length of time without being dribbled past in a Liverpool shirt.

Such is the quality of the 30-year-old, nobody would raise an eyebrow if this stretched to training sessions too.

Either way, Van Dijk better watch out in Liverpool’s next training session. No doubt Salah will have seen his teammate’s comments and will be out to prove him wrong.
