Luis Diaz and Andy Robertson showed off a dynamic partnership from the first minute of Liverpool vs Leicester. This is one for fans to get excited about.
Luis Diaz made his first start for Liverpool on Thursday as Liverpool ran out 2-0 winners against Leicester City. There was a lot of hype around the Colombian – entirely justified – and it’s safe to say he lived up to it.
In fact, Jurgen Klopp said Diaz’s first start was “one of the best games he’s seen from a new player”. That’s incredibly high praise but he really did look that good – like he’d been in this Liverpool side for years, rather than days.
From minute one, Diaz was bursting into space wherever he could find it, pressing like mad and linking up with teammates. One of those teammates was Andy Robertson and it appears Liverpool have a natural partnership there.

Diaz and Robertson combined brilliantly. The Colombian’s inclination to drift inside works perfectly with the Scot’s desire to bomb forward. Importantly, they seemed to naturally leave space for one another.
Their passing was wonderful, too, with one-twos and passes in behind looking effortless. Again, it was as though Diaz and Robertson have played together on that flank for years.
This could actually end up being incredibly important, too. Robertson already has a fantastic partnership with Sadio Mane, of course, but will almost certainly be at the club beyond the Senegalese winger.
Mane’s contract expires in 2023 and there’s some doubt over his future. Should he leave, Liverpool’s left-flank is at risk of collapsing as they Reds search for something new – but they might already have it in Diaz.
Robertson doesn’t turn 28 until next month, after all, while Diaz is only 25. If Mane is to leave in the next two years, it seems Liverpool don’t need to worry about their future.
