Glenn Hoddle noticed a real reaction from the Anfield crowd to a ‘full-blooded’ Luis Diaz moment on his first Liverpool start. The Colombian looked seriously impressive.
There’s a lot of hype around Luis Diaz at Liverpool right now and, in our thoughts, there absolutely should be. The Colombian is the big mid-season addition and looks ready to contribute already.
This was Diaz’s first start for Liverpool as he got the nod at home against Leicester City. Playing on the left wing, his effort levels were extraordinary from the off and no one was more involved from the get-go.
Honestly, it looked as though Diaz had been at Liverpool all season long. There aren’t many players who have had that kind of impact – for some, it’s taken months to get up to speed.
The likes of Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah did slot in effortlessly. We’ll obviously hope Diaz is the same and can have anything like the effect those two have had. The early signs are certainly promising.
And the fans appear to see things to same way. Their reactions to Diaz was incredibly encouraging, as Glenn Hoddle noticed as the player left the pitch.
“He’s done excellently,” he said on BT Sport. “I’ve just seen him a minute ago do a full-blooded tackle over there and it got a response from the crowd on the far side.

“It’s not just his ability on the ball. He looks to me as though he’ll dig in for the team as well.”
Luis Diaz looks great on first Liverpool start
We’re very encouraged by this performance. Diaz looks like a natural fit for Liverpool and at the very least, we’re getting a fantastic work rate out of him.
Roll on the weekend, then, because we want to see more. Diaz could quickly look like a revelation.
