Glenn Hoddle labels Diogo Jota the ‘best buy’ Klopp has made at Liverpool

Glenn Hoddle believes Diogo Jota might just be the best signing Jurgen Klopp has made at Liverpool. We love him – but he isn’t.

Diogo Jota stole the show for Liverpool as the Reds saw off Leicester City at Anfield on Thursday evening. Two goals separated the sides – both coming from Jota.

In fact, he only took two touches to score them. Jota inexplicably found himself open in the six-yard box to steer home a rebound for the first. His second was a similar poacher’s effort, with a wonderful short run to work the space to score.

That’s 12 goals in the Premier League for Jota this season – three more than he managed in an electric first campaign. He’s proving to be a fantastically decisive player, in ways no one really saw coming.

Glenn Hoddle is certainly impressed, labelling Jota the ‘best buy’ of Jurgen Klopp’s term in charge.

“It’s really great instinctive finishing,” he told BT Sport. “He goes into the box, comes in behind him and he knows. Doesn’t need to take a look – his instincts tell him where the goal is.

“That is why he’s a starter for me. Probably [Klopp’s] best buy, I would see. He surprised everyone when he first came with how good he’s been.”

Diogo Jota – Liverpool star

We love Jota and he’s more than worth his £45m transfer fee. But he’s not quite the best signing Klopp has made. Really, he’s not in the top five.

We’ll leave others to pick between the stars but Mohamed Salah will take some beating. He’s been even more of a surprise than Jota, though his form over the years have perhaps led to some forgetting that.

At the same time – this is only Jota’s second season. So who knows? Maybe in a few more years, he’s taking that title without competition. We wouldn’t put it past him.
