Luis Diaz told his father what he thought about an ‘elite’ Liverpool after making his debut on Sunday. The winger set up a goal against Cardiff City.

Everyone was excited to see Luis Diaz debut for Liverpool on Sunday and Jurgen Klopp gave his new signing half an hour. It was an impressive half an hour, too, as we saw Diaz press like mad and look confident on the ball. The highlight, though, was unquestionably his assist.

The Colombian pounced as Cardiff dallied with the ball in the box, winning the ball back right on the byline. Diaz then produced a wonderful piece of skill to find space before cutting it back for Diogo Jota. Jota missed the ball but Takumi Minamino was on hand to finish, sealing a great moment for Diaz.

Diaz had only been at the club for around a week by then and this was his first taste of football with his new team. So what did he think of them?

“There were many suitors who wanted Luis’ services, but he had the dream of reaching Liverpool,” he said. “Because Liverpool is an elite team.

“After the first game, he told me that it was a team that works hard, is complete, in which he will feel comfortable and will have the chance to play with high-performance players.”

That’s all very positive, then, and Liverpool left an immediate impression on their new winger. Sunday suggested Diaz will fit right in, too, and given the justified hype, the Reds should have a very special player if he does click into place here.
