Fabrizio Romano expects Liverpool to be in the mix for Renato Sanches when the midfielder leaves Lille this summer. They won’t be the only ones, however.

It seems Renato Sanches will leave Lille at the end of the season – and that Liverpool will likely get involved. That’s according to Fabrizio Romano on ‘Que Golazo’.

Romano discussed interest from Arsenal in the Portugues midfielder, as well as Barcelona and AC Milan. It appears there will be a fight to secure a talent Carlo Ancelotti once described as ‘fantastic’ and ‘amazing’ when working with him at Bayern Munich.

“Last summer, Arsenal, Barcelona and Liverpool were three clubs seriously interested in Renato Sanches,” said Romano.

“So I would keep them on the list because Renato Sanches is the kind of player you keep on your list for a long time. He’s not the kind of player you use for a panic buy.”

Romano’s co-host then suggested that Sanches would ‘definitely’ be on the market for these clubs. “Yes, in the summer,” replied the journalist. “Yes.”

Liverpool like Renato Sanches

We wrote back in December 2020 that Sanches would be a fantastic signing for Liverpool. He’s got incredible natural talent – both technically and physically – and is now a champion of France.

The Reds never did sign a replacement for Gini Wijnaldum, either, while the likes of James Milner, Jordan Henderson and Thiago are all now over 30. On top of that, Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott are very young options. There’s a lot of merit to introducing a new midfielder in his prime years right now.

We think this is one to watch, then. Sanches is such a talented player and we think Jurgen Klopp and co. could work wonder with him over time. The only real issues is the potential price – any hope of a bargain might be gone with all the competition for his signature.
