Oakley Cannonier appears to be a very exciting talent for Liverpool right now. The youngster just keeps scoring goals.
Liverpool have a lot of fantastic young players on their books – more than they possibly ever have. The first-team scene boasts Curtis Jones and Harvey Elliott, of course, while Neco Williams has seriously impressed ahead of his loan to Fulham.
We’ve seen Conor Bradley, Tyler Morton and Kaide Gordon all have fantastic moments at senior level, too. Melkamu Frauendorf made his senior debut last month and continues to shine for the youth teams, while someone like Mateusz Musialowski carries a great reputation at youth level.
Things look great, then, and there’s a magnificent long-term selection of players here if all goes well. And, perhaps, we should add Oakley Cannonier to the list.
Oakley Cannonier at Liverpool
The 17-year-old has kept up a wonderful goal-scoring record since the start of the season. After striking against Burnley this weekend, Cannonier now has 18 goals in just 14 Under 18 games. Overall, he’s scoring every 63 minutes at that level.

It’s a staggering rate by anyone’s standards and Cannonier appears to have a knack for scoring goals. His record is so good, in fact, that he’ll almost certainly make the step up before long as Liverpool put expectations on him at Under 23 level.
Both Gordon and Musialowski made that jump at the end of last season. Cannonier, surely, will follow in their footsteps as Liverpool try to keep him moving forward. And if the striker can replicate anything like this form at Under 23 level over a season, he’ll inevitably get a first-team chance.
Cannonier is one to watch, then – and largely has been all season for the Under 18s. He could well be a name you’ll hear a lot more of over the next few years and, hopefully, beyond.
