What does the future look like for Roberto Firmino? Recent reports surrounding Liverpool don’t sound too good for the forward.
Roberto Firmino doesn’t have a clear future right now. For starters, his contract expires in 2023 and there’s little talk about a new one – publicly, at least.
The Brazilian will be just shy of 31 come the summer, too. There will be pressure to sell him, especially as his minutes dwindled this season. Injuries have played a huge part but there is a sense that Diogo Jota is now the first-choice centre-forward at Liverpool.
Recent reports, too, don’t sound good for Firmino. It appears the Reds are already thinking about their immediate future in the no.9 spot.

Jota isn’t the only player Liverpool are considering at centre-forward, it seems. The Athletic claims Luis Diaz might be an option there as the club feel his style suits the role.
That would be another player for Firmino to fight with as Jurgen Klopp attempts to get all of his attacking talents in the side. But it’s not the only concern.
Tutto Mercato Web claims Liverpool want Paulo Dybala should Fimrino leave the club this summer. The Argentine is out of contract, meaning the Reds could bring him in for nothing while selling their Brazilian forward. That’s a way to make a profit, bring in a younger player and add someone we think would be a very interesting fit for the squad.
It really seems that Liverpool have plans for the centre-forward role, then. Not that all is lost for Firmino.
He’s still such a unique player that Liverpool may simply believe he’s irreplaceable. Such a scenario would see them renew his contract, providing his demands were reasonable.
We know Klopp is as big a fan as it comes, of course. He labelled Firmino ‘insane’ for all he brings and believes you could write a book on the player. So while his future is very much up in the air, Liverpool may decide they can’t live without the no.9.
